This is my honest review of Ollie Dog Food, based on personal experience feeding my Lab mix, Ozzie – a big boy with a very sensitive stomach. Did we like Ollie? Yes, yes we did.
We all love our dogs. They’re like family, right? So of course, we want to keep them healthy and happy. One of the most common questions that dog parents ask themselves is, “What is the best dog food available for my pup?”
That’s a topic of much discussion and debate. And if your dog gets an illness, it’s even more important to find the best food for him or her!
Concerns about Your dog’s Health
If you are a dog owner, no doubt you have had your moments of concern about your dog’s care, particularly during the COVID crisis, or whenever there is an outbreak of Canine Influenza, Leptospirosis, or Rabies in your area.
Is it safe to walk your dog?
Will he contract an illness if he’s around other dogs?
How will you care for him if he gets sick?
How will you even feed him if you run low on food, but you are stuck at home caring for a sick pup – or if YOU get sick?

I Fed Ollie Dog Food to My Lab Mix with Digestive Issues
You’ve often heard me talk about my favorite fur boy, Ozzie – and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve certainly seen his picture a few…dozen…times.
Ozzie is a yellow lab/Carolina Hound mix (we used this DNA test) who came to us about eight years ago from a dog rescue organization.
He is actually one of four rescue dogs we have had over the years, but the only one still with us today.
We learned a little about his background when we adopted him, including the fact that he was found as a stray and brought to a high-kill shelter when he was less than a year old.
Because he was young and friendly, the shelter felt he was highly adoptable, and contacted a rescue organization to see if they would take him in. They did, of course, and soon after that, he joined our family.
Living as a stray dog through much of his puppyhood didn’t have much of a negative impact on Ozzie.
He is sweet, obedient, and loving toward everyone, whether they are family or complete strangers. He’s playful yet calm, never bites or nips, and loves a good nap cuddled with a soft stuffed toy.
Yes, Ozzie is truly perfect in every way except one – he has very sensitive digestion.

Feeding a Dog With a Sensitive Digestive Tract
Ozzie gets stomach cramps, gurgling, and some really nasty, messy poops on occasion. I won’t go into more detail than that – you shouldn’t have to suffer with it as we do!
If his stomach is upset, he may go for days without eating – and especially for a lab, that’s almost unheard of.
It also stresses us out and makes us sad that he may be in discomfort, or even in pain.
Although there is no way to be sure, we believe this sensitivity developed when he was scavenging for meals as a stray. We have no idea what he ate, or how often. Chances are, whatever it was, wasn’t the best choice for a large, growing young pup.
We had a heck of a time figuring out what he could – and could not – digest.
First, we discovered that his treats needed to be homemade, so that we could monitor the ingredients carefully. We’ve had great success with a number of recipes for homemade dog treats, and the best of all have been these sweet potato chews.
We experimented with many different foods to find the best fit for him – all under consultation with our veterinarian, of course.
NOTE: Due to individual sensitivities, never change your dog’s food without consulting with a veterinary professional.
Fortunately, we found Ollie Dog Food.

We chose the Chicken Goodness Recipe for our dog, because the nutritional breakdown showed that it was the option lowest in protein, which is what seems to aggravate Ozzie’s system.

Final Thoughts on Ollie Dog Food: Is It Good for Dogs with Sensitive Stomachs?
Ozzie – he really is the world’s happiest dog.
Oh, it’s partly because he spends his days napping on the patio with the sun beaming down on him (see the above image – that’s my boy!).
But it’s also because, in this time of crisis, his world has remained safe and secure. And should he fall ill or have to be quarantined for any reason, it will remain that way.
Ozzie knows where his next meal is coming from.
It’s coming from Ollie.
