When was the last time you took a good, hard look at your routines, habits, and daily activities? Have you ever thought about how daily routines can improve your life? The importance of daily routines should not be overlooked.
When most people think of their futures, they think of the “big” events, such as marriage, divorce, and career change.
And while these major events do certainly have an impact, equally so do all the small, continual actions that occur in our daily lives.
What you do on a regular basis will change the outcome of your life.

How Daily Routines Can Improve Your Life
It’s those little things we do day in and day out, that ultimately impact our futures the most even though they may seem so unimportant.
Rushed Mornings
Are your mornings a frenzied rush of activity filled with slamming doors and forgetting things? Your future will continue with more of the same unless you change your morning routine.
Create a morning schedule that allows for enough time to do everything you need to (plus a little wiggle room). Stick to it until it becomes routine, and your mornings will flow so much more smoothly.
You can move from the frenzied, frustrated, cranky morning person to a future you who glides through their morning with grace and positivity, all because you created a routine that worked for you and you stuck with it until it became a habit, a part of who you are.

Lack of Sleep
Do you regularly get enough sleep? If not, you may develop adrenal fatigue in the future.
Try going to bed at approximately the same time every night and waking up at the same time each morning.
Oversleeping on the weekend to “make up” for lost time doesn’t fix the problem, but consistent sleep times will help tremendously. Imagine a well-rested future you!
The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.

Mental Stimulation
Do you regularly read, learn, and take on activities that stimulate your mind?
Creativity needs to be nurtured in order to grow.
If you haven’t done anything to stimulate your creativity lately, try something simple. You could write in a journal every day for just five minutes. Build upon that practice, or move into other hobbies or activities, but continually stimulate your creativity until it’s automatic.
How Your Daily Routines Predict Your Future
What do you want your future to look like?
Do you feel like it’s in your control to make it happen?
Are you aware of your daily routines and the impact they will have, or have you been leaving your future to “fate”?
It’s high time to take control of what you can in your life. Creating daily routines is one powerful way to take control consistently.

A Healthy Future
Do you see a thinner, healthier version of yourself in the future?
Whatever you want to believe, down deep you know there will not be one great, defining moment that gets you there.
Losing weight – building strength – gaining stamina – whatever you envision for your future body goals, you must realize you are playing the long game. It will take time.
What you eat and drink and how you move your body – every day – will determine if the healthy self you envision in your future becomes your reality.
A Great Relationship
Do you feel like your relationship is in a downward spiral?
What are the little things you do and say each and every day that contribute to that spiral?
Our words become our habits.
What if you changed your routine and focused on directing only kind, loving attention on your partner? Do you think that ultimately, your everyday words and actions could lead you down a different path, one of a solid, loving relationship?
A Fantasy Vacation
Dreaming of a fantasy vacation in BoraBora?
You can spend five bucks a day for your afternoon coffee fix, or put that same five bucks a day into a vacation fund. That one small act, repeated consistently, is going to be the deciding factor on whether your dream becomes reality, and how quickly.

You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.

Develop Your Daily Routines With the End in Mind
Want to write a book? Set aside a block of time to write every day. Books do not write themselves.
Want to change jobs? Seek out new opportunities consistently, and act on every one of them.
Want to learn to play golf? You have to practice consistently at the driving range, putting green, and on the course. Playing one round a year will not build your skills.
It’s the little things in life, performed again and again over time, that make the biggest impact on our futures.
Atomic Habits
In his best-selling book Atomic Habits, author and James Clear “reveals practical strategies that will teach you exactly how to form good habits, break bad ones, and master the tiny behaviors that lead to remarkable results.”
I cannot recommend this book highly enough for anyone who wants to learn to develop good habits and break bad ones.
You will learn how to track your habits, overcome willpower, and get back on track when needed.
How to create consistency and strategies will be explained through inspiring stories. Successful athletes, business leaders, and artists who have used habit mastery to become tops in their fields.
Challenge Yourself:
Commit to doing 5 push-ups a day, every day for one month. You may do them on your toes, on your knees, or even against a wall. Just do 5 a day, every day. See what happens to your arms in thirty days. Your daily routine created those results.

Final Thoughts on How (and Why) Your Daily Routines Determine Your Future
Habits are tricky things, both to develop and to break.
Once you understand how your everyday actions impact your future, however, it becomes clear. The development of good habits is essential to your life.
Start small, and start with one habit at a time. Focus on consistency.
You’ll get there!

I love this article because it reminds me of the fact that the little steps are the ones that take you through the journey. No one ever gets there with one grand step. What we do daily is very important in achieving those big goals.
Thank you, Maryam. It’s true – it’s all about the little steps we take every day!
