If you are a dog owner, no doubt you have had your moments of concern about your dog’s care during the current crisis. Is it safe to walk your dog? Can he contract the virus? How will you get food for him? This article serves as a product review for Ollie Dog Food, which I consider the best way to feed your dog during this crisis – or anytime.

The Best Dog Ever…

You’ve often heard me talk about my favorite fur boy, Ozzie – and if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve certainly seen his picture a few…dozen…times. Ozzie is a yellow lab/Carolina Hound mix (we think) who came to us about eight years ago from a dog rescue organization.

He is actually one of four rescue dogs we have had over the years, but the only one still with us today.

We learned a little about his background when we adopted him, including the fact that he was found as a stray and brought to a high-kill shelter when he was less than a year old. Because he was young and friendly, the shelter felt he was adoptable, and contacted a rescue organization to see if they would take him in. They did, of course, and soon after that, he joined our family.

“If you don’t own a dog, at least one, there is not necessarily anything wrong with you, but there may be something wrong with your life.”

Roger A. Caras

Living as a stray dog through much of his puppyhood didn’t have much of a negative impact on Ozzie. He is sweet, obedient, and loving toward everyone, whether they are family or complete strangers. He’s playful yet calm, never bites or nips, and loves a good nap cuddled with a soft stuffed toy.

…With a Sensitive Stomach

Yes, Ozzie is truly perfect in every way except one – he has a very sensitive stomach. If his stomach is upset, he will go for days without eating – and especially for a lab, that’s almost unheard of. It also stresses us out and makes us sad that he may be in discomfort. Although there is no way to be sure, we believe this sensitivity developed when he was scavenging for meals as a stray. We have no idea what he ate, or how often, but chances are, whatever it was, wasn’t the best choice for a large, growing young pup.

We experimented with many different foods to find the best fit for him – all under consultation with our veterinarian, of course (NOTE: Due to inividual sensitivities, never change your dog’s food without consulting his veterinary professional.)

Fortunately, we found Ollie Dog Food. Ollie is a canine-nutritionist designed, fresh dog food with human-grade ingredients, that is delivered to your door on your schedule. The quality of food, packaging, and delivery has been top-notch for the entire time we have been ordering Ozzie’s food from them.

Most important of all – he rarely has digestive issues with this food!

Feeding Ollie Dog Food During the COVID-19 Crisis

And now we find ourselves in the odd situation of “sheltering in place” while the COVID-19 virus takes it’s toll around the world.

With so many unknowns, it’s good to know I don’t have to think twice about having food for my dog.

Amazingly, Ollie’s delivery schedule has not altered for us at all. I can receive the same high-quality food, shipped when I request it, as I did prior to the shutdown. I can easily adjust the schedule as I choose through the website.

Delivery is efficient, packaging is secure, and the food is solidly frozen in serving sizes, making it one less thing to worry about. And let’s face it, we all have a lot to worry about these days.

I’m sure glad feeding my dog isn’t one of them.

“If a dog will not come to you after having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience.”

Woodrow Wilson

What You Need to Know About Ollie Dog Food

Ollie dog food is made from top-quality ingredients in four different recipes. The experts at Ollie will recommend a recipe based on information you provide about your dog. However, you are free to change recipes as you choose.

The choices include:

  • Healthy Beef Eats Recipe – with sunflower oil, sweet potatoes, and carrots.
  • Chicken Goodness with peas, spinach, and blueberries.
  • Healthy Turkey Feast with pumpkin, lentils, and carrots.
  • Tasty Lamb Fare with butternut squash, kale, and strawberries.

Complete ingredient lists and nutritional information are available right on the Ollie website, so you will always know exactly what you are feeding your dog. All ingredients are sourced from family-run farms in the US and Australia, and there are no by-products, artificial flavors, or preservatives.

For Ozzie’s digestive issues? We chose the Chicken Goodness Recipe, because the nutritional breakdown showed that it was the option lowest in protein, which is what seems to aggravate Ozzie’s system.

As I mentioned above, Ollie has a flexible, regular delivery schedule, and shipping is always free.

Ollie’s Commitment to the Community

Ollie will be partnering with the Humane Society to donate 2000 meals to pups in communities severely impacted by COVID-19, donating 3000 meals to dog owners nominated by our customers, and will be providing special discounts to first responders and medical staff.
